Name: The Courtyard Series: Ethan Philion Trio
Date: September 19, 2023
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM CDT
Event Description:

The Ethan Philion Trio is an acoustic jazz trio focused on playing swinging, joyful music. Led by bassist Ethan Philion, the group features Wes Dziedzic on Piano and Casey Nielsen on Guitar. Their repertoire features a mix of original compositions and arrangements of familiar songs that draw from the Nat King Cole trio, the Ray Brown Trio, and more. Philion's arrangements of jazz standards highlight the virtuosity and the sensitivity of each member of the ensemble.

Philion is one of the busiest bassists in Chicago's jazz scene. His debut album, Meditations on Mingus, received widespread praise from Downbeat, JAZZIZ, Jazzwise, and the project was featured as a headlining act for the 2022 Chicago Jazz Festival and the 2021 Hyde Park Jazz Festival. Philion was one of the 2022 Jazz Institute of Chicago’s New Works Fresh Voices Fellowship recipients and has won fellowships with Luminarts and Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead. He was the winner of the 2019 International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition.
